Mixed ribs and jill yim style wings, with fired rice
Fried chow mein
2 bags of prawn crackers
(Delivery charge of £1.50)
The ribs tasted delicious, if a little dry; however, the real problem came to the portion sizes. There was only a tiny bit of meat on each rib, barely enough for one mouthful. The mixed ribs and wings came in one small container, and would feed maybe 1-2 people if they were eating other dishes as well. Not very good value! The prawn crackers were bland and soggy, as was the egg fried rice. Some of our reviewers praised the chow mein as being quite tasty, however, I felt its texture was greasy and slimy. Compared to many other Chinese takeaways, the standard of food really fell down; overall we felt that Rainbow Garden didn’t perform considering the price. Their menu covers all normal Chinese takeaway dishes such as sweet and sour chicken and chilli beef, with dishes priced at about £5 on average. They also offer some Thai tom yum dishes and English omelette and chips (why did omelettes feature on a Chinese takeaway menu? We’re not sure)! Their “House Special” dishes seem to consist of various fried mixed meats. Overall, given the poor quality of their food and average menu, Rainbow Garden doesn’t come highly recommended.
