Guild Elections Day 1 – Rain stops play

Campaigning began today for the guild officer elections, heralding two weeks of lecture shout outs, painted cardboard on campus and students in ridiculous costumes.
Before campaigning began, the candidates had a breakfast meeting with Vice President of Democracy and Resources, Hugo Sumner, in the Guild reception, where the media societies were out in force taking reactions of the forthcoming two weeks. The hopefuls were released onto campus just before ten o’clock this morning.
Throughout the day cardboard signs were put up all around campus vying for the votes of the student body. This year there are twenty five sabbatical candidates and fourteen non-sabbatical candidates hoping they will be next year’s officer team.
Rain in the late afternoon meant that campaigning ended sooner than expected with many of the cardboard signs starting to suffer weather damage. Many candidates then moved onto halls of residence and Selly Oak to door knock, hoping to canvas votes. Voting will open on Friday 2nd March at 10am on the my.bham portal.
