We rejoin Emily Thorne this week as she delves into the dirty laundry of Senator Kingsley, the prosecutor who launched his political career off the back of her father’s trial. Not satisfied with ruining his career, Emily is determined to destroy his family and his life, just as he destroyed her own. All she needs is a little help from computer genius Nolan Ross.
Meanwhile, Jack is trying to cope with the loss of his dad and his angry teenage brother, Declan, who is busy learning his own lessons about revenge. Daniel, with a little encouragement from Emily, had decided that he should face his past head on, and Ashley, Emily’s BFF, is being steadily charmed by Daniel’s handsome and sinister college roommate, Tyler Barrol.
There is a great deal of tension in this week’s Revenge and it would seem that, with each episode, the story continues to grow darker and more twisted. There is a particular moment that was almost painful to watch, and will cause the audience to hold its breath and claw into the sofa cushions. If this dark streak continues, ABC have certainly got a winner on their hands. That’s not to say there isn’t humour this week. The writers have added a light-hearted touch to this otherwise black storyline in the form of Sammy the dog, who seems to have become Emily’s rather slobbery stalker. He is by far her most adorable suitor yet.
It was also intriguing to see some real development of Victoria Grayson’s character this week; we’re beginning to see some of the raw emotions behind the Ice Queen’s frosty mask. It was particularly interesting to learn more about the relationship between her and Emily’s (Amanda’s) father, although it did bring into question why she has stayed with Conrad for so long. However, there is a sense of some real, buried feelings there, and it’s hard not to feel a pang of sympathy for her as she sits in front of her mirror, fondling a set of treasured earrings
By far the most intriguing episode yet, anyone who isn’t already hooked will be after fifty-minutes of this sharp new drama.
