A section of Bristol Road in Selly Oak was closed on Wednesday after a water pipe in the area was damaged, leading to flooding and still remains closed.
On Wednesday August 15th, a statement from West Midlands Police stated that the area of road outside the Soak pub would be shut down 'for some time' adding that diversions had been organised. The statement went on to say that, 'It is believed the water supply has been turned off in the area while the damage is being assessed.'
The road was closed from the A38 Bristol Road and the A38 Aston Webb Boulevard to the A38 Chapel Lane and Elliot Road.
Water company Severn Trent Water released a statement on Wednesday saying, 'The Bristol Road remains closed following the unexpected burst water pipe that happened yesterday morning. Our teams have worked hard throughout the night, and after talking to both the Police and the Local Authority, we are pleased to confirm that the road will reopen later this morning. A walkway will be put in place for pedestrians.
'Until the road reopens, the diversion remains in place. We know this has caused considerable disruption in the area. We’re sorry for this and do appreciate the patience of everyone who has been affected – we’ll continue to work as hard as we can to ensure that the road can be made safe and reopened as quickly as possible.'
Despite the hope that it would reopen, the road still remains closed.
