A tragic shooting in Edgbaston has left one man dead and another critically injured, sparking a major investigation by West Midlands Police (WMP). The incident occurred on the night of Friday 22nd November on Rotton Park Road.

This incident has shaken the usually calm and quiet suburb, with residents ‘not used to this kind of violence here’

Police arrived to find two victims; a man in his 20s, discovered in a car and pronounced dead at the scene; and another man, around 30, was found injured at a nearby bus stop. The latter reportedly fled the gunman and was rushed to hospital, where he remained in critical condition.

This incident has shaken the usually calm and quiet suburb, with residents ‘not used to this kind of violence here’. The area, a five minutes’ drive from The Vale, has been cordoned off for investigation. Road closures remain in effect, and police patrols have been increased to reassure the local community. 

Shortly after midnight, firearms officers arrested a suspect in his 30s on Waterloo Road, about a mile from the scene. The suspect was in custody, suspected of murder, as police continued to collect information from and around the scene. He was released as of Sunday 24th.
