Sigrid has released her anthem-like single ‘It Gets Dark’ and it provides an empowering message about the highs and lows of life. The song is all about perspective, embracing the twists and turns of life that is like a rollercoaster and appreciating all that comes with it. The single comes after ‘Mirror’ and ‘Burning Bridges’ in the run up to her second album How To Let Go.

Sigrid said ‘You have to know what sucks in life, then properly appreciate the good stuff’ in a press statement. ‘It Gets Dark’ is an ode to that. I honestly do not think I have ever been as excited about a single release before.’ This is essentially what the single is all about, you have to experience the lows and hit rock bottom in life in order to enjoy the highs and reach limitless possibilities.

A classic pop empowerment anthem, Sigrid’s new single is sure to make you want to get up and dance

The song is accompanied by an enticing sci-fi like visual featuring things associated with space including floating planets. The emotional lyrics reflect the two sides of Sigrid’s life, the one at home and the girl touring the world. ‘They’re two different things. The chill girl who loves to ski and hike and cook versus the other part of me that’s like let’s go out, or let’s play massive shows, go on stage and not be scared of anything.’

The lyrics suggest that although things get hard when you are further afield from home, they will eventually get better and you will always find your way back. ‘I, I’ve never ever been this far away from home / and all alone it gets dark, yeah it gets dark / and I, I’m moving at the speed of light, / I had to go, but now I know / it gets dark so I can see the stars’

A classic pop empowerment anthem, Sigrid’s new single is sure to make you want to get up and dance to your heart’s content, forgetting all of life’s worries.
