As part of the first part of the upcoming downloadable content (DLC) for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, The Pokémon Company have announced a new Pokémon – Poltchageist.

The Pokémon Company have announced a new Pokémon- Poltchageist

Appearing to continue the trend of convergent Pokémon introduced in the base game like Wiglett and Toedscool, Poltchageist shares a resemblance to the Generation 8 Pokémon Polteageist. The Grass/Ghost Pokémon is said to punish those who do not eat their food and crack objects by sprinkling them with matcha and using it to suck out their life force. This same matcha is used to seal up cracks in household objects.

While currently unconfirmed, it is likely that Poltchageist also has a pre-evolved form similar to Polteageist evolving from Sinistea.

Poltchageist is the 9th brand new Pokémon confirmed to be debuting in ‘The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero’. Alongside new monsters like Raging Bolt and Iron Crown, paradox forms of Raikou and Cobalion respectively, and evolutions to Applin and Duraludon in Dipplin and Archaludon; Poltchageist sets a precedent for more convergent and regional Pokémon to be introduced.

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask releases on Nintendo Switch September 13th 2023 and requires either Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet to play.
