Wildwood is a modern restaurant, serving high quality European food, such as pizzas and pasta dishes, as well as burgers, risottos, steaks and delicious desserts. Just two minutes away from the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, this restaurant is located in an ideal location for accessing New Street, whilst being tucked away from the busyness of the Bullring.

The restaurant denotes a stylish interior, with light sky-blue chairs and mirrors which decorate the walls. The modern interior contrasts the plain exterior of the wooden restaurant sign outside Wildwood, but this creates a pleasant surprise upon entry. The size of the restaurant is average, but my partner and I had one waiter serving us for our entire visit which made it more personal (and more reason to accept their service charge.)

The menu boasts an array of meals, leaving you spoilt for choice. There was a variety of pizza options, and an option for a thinner base and calzone too. In conjunction with this, their range of pasta dishes was immense, giving you choices from Bolognese and lasagne to gnocchi and oven baked penne dishes.

They even had a range of burgers, and grill meat options, as well as vegetarian and meat risottos. Luckily, the prices weren’t too expensive, and were very similar and reasonable to what you’d expect from pizza and pasta dishes in other chains. However, if you’re looking for something from the grill section, expect to pay a bit more.

Whilst we were spoilt for choice, both my partner and I opted for a simple Margherita pizza. However, this classic pizza option did not disappoint. The freshly made pizzas came out quickly, and satisfied our hunger instantly. The mozzarella was the right amount of both stringy and thick. The large pizza, which only cost £7.95, was filling and mouth-wateringly tasty. The hints of basil added nicely to the cheese and tomato taste, and the dough wasn’t too thick, nor too thin. The crusts could have done with being softer, but all in all, this was one of the best pizzas I’ve had from a restaurant in Birmingham.

To go with the pizza, we shared a portion of fries which again, were potentially the best fries I’ve had. While they were highly salty, this enhanced the flavour, and along with the soft texture inside, these fries really go down a treat.

If you’re looking for a non-alcoholic drink to try at Wildwood, I would have to recommend the Raspberry Lemonade; the sweetness of the lemonade with the added sweetness of the fruity flavour makes this a refreshing drink to have with your meal.

To finish off this fantastic meal, we knew we had to try a dessert. While my partner opted for chocolate brownie and ice cream (which was warm, chocolatey and gooey – everything the perfect brownie should be), I decided to have the Lotus Biscuit Cheesecake for something different. Layered with Lotus Biscuit at the bottom, cream cheese in the middle, and a biscuit spread with lotus crumbs on top, this substantially sized pudding was both perfectly sweet and savoury. With salted caramel sauce too, the layers of the cheesecake blended spectacularly in my mouth, creating a soft sweetness. While it began to feel sickly on the last two mouthfuls, I would recommend this pudding for anyone who loves cheesecake and has a sweet tooth.

You’ll be left feeling satisfied – belly full and face smiling.
