The single ‘Fast Times’ has confirmed Sabrina Carpenter to be fully immersed in adult pop, finally moving out from her Disney Channel days. She wrote the single with her ‘closest friends’ who include Julia Micheals, JP Saxe and producer John Ryan. As Carpenter told the Rolling Stone, the song writing process for ‘Fast Times’ began with sampling a tequila bottle and playing the drums with some pencils.

The action-packed music video is inspired by hit blockbusters such as Charlie’s Angels

Carpenter told the Rolling Stone the song is ‘about the feeling when you’re letting life steer the wheel and you think ‘Let me enjoy this now and I’ll process the emotional repercussions of this later.” The action-packed music video is inspired by hit blockbusters such as Charlie’s Angels and Kill Bill. It is directed by Amber Park, imagining Carpenter as the star of her own summer blockbuster film, as she says her ‘little dream action film.’

The offbeat rhythm is similar to Selena Gomez’s ‘Bad Liar’

The honest track captures the whirlwind of being in your twenties with everything happening so quickly and a reminder to be present in the moment. ‘These are fast times and fast nights, yeah / No time for rewrites, we couldn’t help it / Outlines on bed sides, yeah / Give me a second to forget I ever really meant it.’ The offbeat rhythm is similar to Selena Gomez’s ‘Bad Liar’ which builds up production through keys, the drums and the guitar with Carpenter’s dreamy vocals over the top of the instrumental. The chorus adds smooth harmonies, provides a disco-esque essence to the production, complimented by an electric guitar solo.

The sensual video and mature lyrics make sure to show that Carpenter has her own identity and is shedding the light on this new one rather than her previous Disney Channel persona. She aims to deliver something deeper and more meaningful on her new album.
